HI! I’m Cindy…
….wife, mom, Mimi (aka grandma) and home décor enthusiast.
I love thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales and good junk! But I really don’t like spending a lot of money, which you probably figured out by where I like to shop.
I’m fortunate enough to work from home because home is really my favorite place to be.
THE HUBBY AND ME
My husband Dee and I live just outside of Phoenix with our two Havanese dogs, Greta Garbo and Jimmy Stewart.
We recently spent two wonderful years living in the Seattle area but moved back to Phoenix to be near our kids and grand-kids (well the ones that live here anyway. We also have some in Vegas and Massachusetts).
We miss the rain (crazy but true), the green, the cool summers and the seasons but felt that Phoenix was where we needed to be… for now! (not big fans of the desert!)
We’ve been married just over 8 years and this move back to Phoenix was our first home purchase together.
We’ve lived in 3 rentals before we bought this house so it’s been like Christmas for us to be able to put our own stamp on this place. And I’ve really been stamping it up!
Dee is not only my husband but also my best friend and partner in all things makeover-y….he’s awesome…you would like him!
- When tall ladders are involved in a project… he’s my guy!
- When Goodwill is having a sale….he knows where to find me.
- When cash is needed for the local Facebook yard sale page…he’s my ATM.
- When road-tripping… he knows to slow down for Antique/Junk stores…yep…he’s a keeper!
SOMETHING PAINTED WHITE
Dee is the inspiration behind the name Something Painted White. He knows me well and knows how much I love white.
I have a white house, a white dog, white dishes, I love white décor and white paint.
One night we were sitting in bed reading before lights out and my phone sounded a notification (which meant someone had posted on IG and I should check it out) but I was reading a book and ignored it.
Dee leaned over and asked, “Are you gonna check that?”, I said “Nah…I’ll check tomorrow”, to which he so sweetly responded, “But what if it’s something painted white?”
I literally gasped out loud and said, “Oh my gosh! That’s it! That’s my name! Something Painted White!”
I immediately grabbed my phone and checked to see if the name was available…and it was!!!! Yay!!!
I told you Dee was awesome…Keep an eye out for him on the blog…he can be a bit of a ‘Where’s Waldo’ kind of guy…you never know when you’ll spot him.
COZY AND HOME-Y!
I have always loved to decorate my home to make it feel cozy and home-y, not sure if home-y is a word but you know what I mean.
When I was a little girl I used to talk my mom into changing the living room furniture around, as often as possible.
My bedroom furniture was moved around on a regular basis. I loved making the same room feel completely different just by moving things around.
Cozy…and home-y!
I LOVE LAMP!!! (Anchorman reference)
One thing that I cannot live without….is a lamp. Let me re-phrase….several things I cannot live without…are lamp(S)!
I truly believe you can cozy up an empty room by putting a lamp on a cardboard box.
Lamplight makes me happy…and cozy!
You know what I love about cloudy days???? LAMPS!!! Woohoo!!!
PAINT
Let’s talk paint! Oh how I love paint!
- I love the smell of it…
- I love pouring it out of a can into a tray (it’s like pudding) and…
- I really love that first swipe of the roller on the wall.
Paint is yet another way to make the same room feel completely different. It’s a wonderfully inexpensive way to make your home feel fresh and clean and…that’s right…cozy!
PAINTING FURNITURE
One day, many years back, I decided to paint a piece of furniture…I spray painted it…I loved the different look, but was not a fan of the spray painting process, so the next time I used a brush…did you hear that???
It was angels singing!
Yep….I love painting with a brush. Brush strokes don’t scare me at all…in fact, I love them!
I think brush strokes give a piece texture, personality, imperfections and a wonderful farmhouse feel.
It may even be safe to say that I love things that are perfectly imperfect.
I’d much rather put my hair in a messy clip than to have it perfectly coiffed into a beautiful bun, and I’m the same way with my home décor.
- I use the eyeball technique for hanging photos…
- I rarely ever use symmetry because that way I don’t have to worry about perfection…
- and my drop cloth curtains are just that…Drop Cloths! (ahem…not perfect) Yay!
FRENCH COUNTRY FARMHOUSE
It took me a long time to put a name on my style…but one day it hit me…French Country Farmhouse.
I was getting my hair done and chatting with the hair stylist about furniture restoration and I showed her a photo of an antique radio cabinet I had chalk painted.
She couldn’t say enough negative things about how much she detests curvy furniture…and how straight clean lines were really the best.
I felt hurt and like I was wrong for liking the style that I liked….and then it occurred to me that
A.) I would never go back to her to have my hair done…and
2.) I loved my style and it was high time I stop letting people make me feel bad about it.
It was shortly after that hair appointment I was online and saw the terms ‘French Country’ and ‘Farmhouse’, and I knew….
I WAS BOTH!
I embraced my style that day and have never looked back! Nor would I ever make anyone feel bad about their style…we can all have different styles and still get along…Right?
MY NAME IS CINDY AND I’M ADDICTED TO INSTAGRAM
If you’ve stuck around to the end of this introduction, Thank You!, and Welcome to my blog!
I started this blog because I appreciate so many home décor bloggers who have helped to inspire me and have given me the courage to take on projects that I at one time may have never considered doing. It’s because of other home décor bloggers that I was able to figure out my style and find what I liked and how I wanted my home to look.
I hope you will follow Dee and me on this journey as we put our stamp on OUR HOME.
I look forward to getting to know you and perhaps helping inspire you on your path to all things Home Décor-ish!
All the best!
Cindy
